Resources for drafting your Will

Using the Build-a-Will Tool at the Sechelt Library

The Build-a-Will tool is available only on the public computers at Sechelt Public Library. When you sign in please click on the Build-a-Will icon on the public computer Desktop. This online resource is designed to help you draft a plain language will in British Columbia.  This tool provides sample clauses for wills, powers of attorney, and other related documents

Before you begin using the Build-a-Will tool on the library’s public computer, please be aware of the following:

    • The Build-a-Will website must be accessed from a Sechelt Library Public Computer. Ask Library Staff for the password.

    • We recommend you watch this six-minute video to give you an overview of how to use this resource.

    • Library staff can help troubleshoot technical issues and help you navigate the website, but it is outside of our role to help patrons complete forms or advise on what to include.  This type of help is considered legal advice and can only be provided by legal professionals.

    • Public computer sessions and the Build-a-Will website have inactivity and time reminders – so please watch the computer screen for those reminders so you don’t lose your work in progress. If you need more time, please ask a staff member.

    • If you need to leave before your Build-a-Will is completed, the website will NOT hold your data.

    • You have two alternatives for saving either your completed or partially completed work at the end of your session:
      1. attach the downloaded Build-a-Will Word document, or copy the text from your Build-a-Will Word document into an email and send it to yourself
      2. save the Build-a-Will Word document onto your own personal USB thumb drive and bring it back for your next session. The library does not provide USB thumb drives
      3. print your Build-a-Will document
