Job Overview
Primary Function:
• To assist Children’s Services Coordinator in the preparation, presentation, promotion and implementation of programs and events which will focus on, but not be exclusive to, the province wide Summer Reading Club program and associated activities
• Assists in maintaining an overall professional presence in the physical collection for youth and children
• Other duties as assigned

Position Type
Temporary full-time for 8 weeks, commencing Tuesday June 25, 2024 through Saturday August 17, 2024
Hours of Work, Wage and Benefits
35 hours per week (Tuesday to Saturday)
2024 wage: $21.50 per hour
Duties and Responsibilities
General:
• Assist Children’s Services Coordinator in the preparation, presentation, promotion and implementation of programs and events which will focus on, but not be exclusive to, the province wide Summer Reading Club program
• Assists in maintaining an overall professional presence in the physical collection for youth and children
• Assists in the preparation of displays that feature and emphasize the themes being presented
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Experience working with children (eg. babysitting, Sunday school, day care, summer camps, teaching assistants etc.)
• Experience in the field of education, childcare, recreation or related creative programs preferred
• Between 15-30 years of age (inclusive) at the commencement of employment (a CSJ requirement)
Required skills
• Ability to communicate with the public effectively and work harmoniously with all staff
• Dedication to providing excellent customer service to a diverse community
• Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
• Enthusiastic reader who is willing to share this enthusiasm
• Interest in preparing posters, displays and other promotional material
• Some knowledge of children’s books and children’s interests
• Ability to work under pressure and remain calm
• Ability to problem solve and work independently from time to time
• Creativity in motivating children to explore the world of reading and themes related to Summer Reading Club activities
Union Certification
Employees of the Sechelt Public Library are required to join C.U.P.E. Local 391. The Collective Agreement specifies terms of employment, including wages and benefits. Under the agreement with C.U.P.E., employment opportunities are offered internally first.
Working Conditions
• Some evenings and Saturday working required
• Some awkward / heavy lifting may be required
