The Lead to Read Program
at the Sechelt Library

GOALS

  • Ensure a safe and friendly environment for young students to reading
  • Assist youth by helping improve their literacy skills over
  • Provide an opportunity for volunteers to develop mentoring skills

LENGTH
1 hour session every Tuesday, from 4:15-5:15pm. Program begins October 10th and finishes on November 21st.

VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS

-High school student (Grade 8 to Grade 12)
-Strong communication skills
-Ability to motivate and mentor children
-Reliable and a positive attitude
-Strong literacy skills
-Commit to all program dates

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

-Attend an orientation and training session (which will be held one hour before the first session)
-Create a positive, fun and rewarding environment
-Be a positive role model for participants
