A Dickens Christmas…2017
On Monday Dec 11th and Tuesday Dec 12th over 100 people enjoyed the enchanting music of harps played in the lobby and the aroma of mulled & spiced cranberry/apple juice in the Community Room at the Sechelt Library. The happy chatter of every one, awaiting in anticipation for the reading of “A Christmas Carol”, really made for a joyful beginning of the event. Richard Austin, AKA Charles Dickens, read the story of “A Christmas Carol” with enthusiasm and wonder. People laughed. People cried. The story brought us back to a simpler time and reminded us about the spirit of Christmas. Members of the Arbutus Sound Chorus lead the audience in singing a handful of carols, after everyone enjoyed “Dickens” inspired treats. Tickets for the event were just $2 with all proceeds to the Sechelt homeless shelter and people brought bags of items for the food bank. Just over $230 was handed over to Nick Gaskin, manager of the Raincity Housing Homeless Shelter-Sunshine Coast and about 6 overflowing bags of food and about $60 was presented to Norm Blair, Food Security Lead, from the Sunshine Coast Community Services Food Bank.
