Volunteering Information

Volunteering at the Sechelt Public Library

As you can see by our library history, The Sechelt Public Library was built on the efforts and dedication of volunteers, and the tradition of volunteering at the Sechelt Public Library continues today. There are over 30 volunteers at any given time who contribute 2500 hours of time each year to assist Library staff with:

  • Shelving books
  • Repairing books
  • Covering and processing new books
  • Processing newly arrived magazines
  • Processing kits
  • Helping with prep work for story time crafts
  • Checking and repairing video and audio materials

Criteria for Volunteering

  • Be available 2 or 3 hours per week (although some volunteer positions can be for a specific period of time such as assisting with a special event)
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months of volunteering
  • Be at least 14 years old
  • Be fit enough to perform duties that require standing, lifting, and stamina
